SLAM: Monday Feb. 13, 2006
Full Moon Poets Poetry Slam :: Encinitas
The Winter Slam hosted by Encinitas based Full Moon Poets will be held at the La Paloma Theater (Hwy 101 and D St, Encinitas)
7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2006… FREE …
Poets call: 5:45 pm. (names will be drawn out of the infamous popcorn bucket to determine who will be able to compete)
Poets should be prepared to perform 3 poems, 3 minutes MAX in length.
Poetry Slam, is a competitive performance art form that began at The Get Me High Club, then later the Green Mill Tavern in Chicago in 1984 by construction worker/poet Marc Smith (so WHAT!). Poets, without the use of props, perform their poems and are scored, by a panel of judges randomly chosen from the audience.
At the Full Moon Poets Slam, the winner could end up with a popcorn bucket full of cash, collected from the audience in nickles, dimes, and dollars.... this could total a couple hundred dollars if past slams are any indication.
Don’t expect a lot of high-brow poetry, but rather a rollicking good time.
